Unpixelate image

Blocky, jagged pictures come from images that are too small or over-compressed. This smooths the blocks, enlarges cleanly and, if you want, has AI redraw the detail.

Drop a photo here, or tap to chooseJPEG, PNG or WebP. It opens in your browser; nothing is uploaded unless you press an AI button.

Resampling

Instant upscale runs on your device. The AI detail pass sends a 1024px copy to our AI provider, which redraws fine texture; the result is then scaled to your chosen size (capped at 4096px wide).

How to unpixelate image

  1. Open the pixelated image

Small thumbnails, images saved from chats and heavily compressed JPEGs all work.

  2. Clean and enlarge

JPEG clean-up is turned up for you. Choose 2× or 4× and press Upscale.

  3. AI for faces and texture

If the result looks smooth but vague, run the AI detail pass to reconstruct texture.

Two kinds of pixelation

Visible square pixels mean the image is simply too small for the size it is shown at. Enlarging with Lanczos instead of nearest-neighbour removes the squares.

Blotchy 8 × 8 blocks and halos around edges are JPEG compression artefacts. JPEG stores each 8 × 8 block separately, and at low quality the blocks stop matching. The clean-up slider smooths those before upscaling so they are not enlarged too.

Deliberately pixelated faces or text (mosaic censoring) cannot be truthfully reversed: the information was averaged away. AI may produce a convincing face that is not the real person.

Questions people ask

How do I fix a pixelated picture?

Open it, keep JPEG clean-up around 40, upscale 2× to 4× with Lanczos and save. Use the AI detail pass if you need texture back.

Can you unpixelate censored text or faces?

No tool can recover the original. A mosaic replaces each block with its average colour, so the detail is gone. AI can only guess.

Why does my photo look pixelated on social media?

Platforms re-compress uploads. Upload close to the size they display (for example 1080px wide for Instagram) so they do not need to compress as hard.
