How a photo fills the hole you painted
The magenta block is the area you brushed over. The instant eraser never "knows" what was behind it. It peels the hole like an onion: each pass fills the outermost ring of missing pixels with a distance-weighted average of known neighbours, then moves one ring inwards.
Drag to the end and look at the middle: smooth sky fills convincingly, but the stripes on the ground blur into mush, because averaging cannot continue a pattern. That is exactly when to press AI clean-up: a generative model continues textures, lines and perspective instead of averaging them.

Tips from retouchers
- Remove the shadow too. A shadow with nothing casting it is the most common giveaway.
- Work large to small. Remove the biggest object first, then the leftovers, so each fill has good surroundings.
- Watch straight lines. Horizons, railings and kerbs must line up across the patch; if one kinks, undo and use AI.
- Be honest with news or evidence photos. Removing elements from documentary images misleads viewers; keep the original.
Questions people ask
How do I remove an object from a photo?
Open the photo, paint over the object with the brush (cover its edges and its shadow), then press "Erase marked area". The hole is filled from the surroundings instantly. If the background is detailed, press "AI clean-up" to have the same area repainted by AI.
Can I remove people from photos?
Yes. Paint over the person including their shadow and any reflection in water or glass. For one person against a plain wall or sky the instant fill is usually enough; in a busy street the AI clean-up rebuilds the background more convincingly.
Is this a free magic eraser alternative?
It does the same job as the Magic Eraser on Google Pixel phones or Clean Up in Apple Photos, but in any browser on any device, with no account and no watermark. AI clean-up has an hourly limit per visitor.
Why does the filled area look smudged?
The instant fill averages the pixels around the hole, which is perfect for sky, walls and water but smears patterns such as brick, tiles or leaves. Use AI clean-up for those, or erase in smaller strokes so each hole is surrounded by the right texture.
Does AI change the rest of my photo?
No. The AI returns a full image, but this tool pastes back only the pixels inside your marks (with a soft edge), so everything outside stays exactly as it was.
What resolution is the result?
Edits are made on a working copy up to 2048px on the long edge and saved as PNG. That is enough for phone screens, social media and prints up to about 6 × 4 inches.
