Watermarks exist to protect photographers’ work. This tool is built for legitimate cases: removing your own studio logo from an old export, clearing the orange date stamp a film or early digital camera burned into your family photos, or cleaning a stock image after you bought the licence (most stock libraries give you the clean file on purchase, which is always better quality).
If the photo is not yours, ask the owner or buy a licence. Removing a mark to reuse someone’s image is infringement even if the result looks perfect.
Why some watermarks are harder
- Semi-transparent marks still show the photo underneath, but both fill methods replace those pixels rather than "un-blend" them, so erase the whole mark.
- Marks over faces need AI clean-up; averaging will blur features.
- Tiled watermarks cover too much of the image to reconstruct faithfully.
Questions people ask
Is it legal to remove a watermark?
Removing a watermark from your own photo, or one you have licensed, is fine. Removing it from someone else’s image to use it without permission is copyright infringement in most countries, and in the US removing copyright management information can also breach the DMCA (17 U.S.C. § 1202). Use this tool on your own images: old exports with your logo, date stamps from your camera, or stock you have paid for.
How do I remove a watermark from a photo?
Open the photo, brush over the watermark with a brush slightly wider than its letters, and press Erase. On plain backgrounds that is all. On detailed backgrounds, press AI clean-up to repaint the marked area.
What about big, tiled watermarks across the whole image?
Those are designed to resist removal and cover too much of the picture to rebuild honestly. If you own the image, the clean answer is to find or request the original file.
Will the watermark area be blurry?
With the instant fill, patterned areas can look soft. AI clean-up continues textures such as skin, fabric and foliage, so it usually leaves no visible patch.
